Happy Heritage Days for the Douglas Dutchers

Coming off a winless day at the Silas K. Pierce Cup, the Dutchers bounced back to claim three victories over the Huntington Champion Hilltoppers, Chicago Salmon, and the Wyandotte Ghostriders at the Heritage Days Festival, hosted by the Hilltoppers. Despite battling a whirlwind of injuries and the scorching heat, Douglas held true to form at the dish and in the field. It was a spectacular day of fun, food, and gentlemanly base ball for all.

Dutchers Prepare for the Cup

The Douglas Dutchers base ball season is back in full swing…literally. The first two matches of the season saw the Dutchers tally a total of 59 aces in victories over the South Haven Bark Peelers and the Chicago Salmon. They will try to continue their solid striking ways in the upcoming Silas K. Pierce Cup on Saturday, June 5. Come out to Riverside Park in Grand Rapids to cheer on your favorite vintage base ball team. The Dutchers first match is scheduled for 9:45AM.

Dutchers Gear Up for 2010 Vintage Base Ball Season

The Douglas Dutchers are ready to put on the knickers and suit up for another fantastic season of vintage base ball. This year’s schedule features a season opener against the South Haven Bark Peelers on May 1 during the Tulip Time Festival at Riverview Park in Holland. Other highlights on the schedule include the Silas K. Pierce Cup, Heritage Days in Huntington, The Billy Sunday Festival, and the 6th Annual Milwaukee Cream City’s 1860 Base Ball Festival. Dutchers outlast the Ghostriders

On a day that would have been better fit for a duck, the Dutchers managed to squeak out a victory over the Wyandotte Ghostriders from Upper Sandusky, Ohio. Despite the torrential downpours, Douglas prevailed 15-14 in their final tuneup before the upcoming Ohio Cup on Labor Day weekend. It was fine gentlemenly display of base ball by both squads, featuring drenched vintage uniforms, water hazards on the field, and tasty ribs to round out the day.

Dutchers take two in Portage

The Dutchers took home a wooden trophy and tallied their 5th consecutive victory in a round-robin day of base ball down in Portage, Indiana. They registered a 7-6 come-from-behind win in the last inning versus the Iron Diamonds of Porter County and a 10-1 win over the Winona Lake Blue Laws to round out the day.
